Learn to sail while helping others to sail. If you can already sail, so much the better but, if not, we can train you in the rigging, launching and handling of our Access Boats, 20ft Day Boats and small dinghies. You will also be helping disabled people into and out of the boats and generally assisting our experienced volunteers.
When: Wed/Thurs/Sun (9:30am-4pm)
Where: Greenland Dock, Rope St, London SE16 7SX
About Tideway Sailability
At Tideway, people with or without a disability all sail together as one community. All of our members help each other, whether it is launching boats for those who cannot or the less physical offering advice and sailing tips; everyone at Tideway has something to offer, even if it is simply inspirational by being brave enough to sail against all the odds. You will be included as a joint member – your part is to support others by getting them into life jackets and safely into boats. You can also participate in the sailing activities if you wish.
What are they looking for?
A commitment of once a week is ideal but once a month or fortnightly is also helpful! RYA level 1 or 2 would be a great help but we can train people who show commitment and aptitude. An experience of working with disabled people would be useful, but a cheerful and helpful attitude will do for starters.
