About Surrey Docks Farm
Surrey Docks Farm is a working community farm in London that engages local people to learn about farming and food provenance. Open 7 days a week, with free entry from 10am til 4pm we offer a beautiful bit of rural life in the heart of the city.
We have all the usual farm animals on site, as well as food growing gardens. We sell eggs, meat, fruit and vegetables through our farm shop. We engage the whole community delivering toddlers club, youth clubs, hosting school visits as well as volunteering and work experience and training projects for adults with learning disabilities.
Shop Volunteers mainly fill a customer service role, engaging with visitors and participants in person and on the phone, as well as selling produce and assisting with basic administration.
Who are we looking for?
Shop volunteers should have excellent communication skills, be polite and friendly, interested in the Farm’s work and able to work independently in a busy environment.
We welcome those who have previous customer service of retail experience, however this isn’t essential and training will be provided.
What the volunteer would gain from the volunteering opportunity
This role enables volunteers to gain new skills, meet lots of people, have fun and assist with the running of a community shop. The Farm is happy to write references once volunteers have committed to a period of volunteering.
- Please complete the enquiry form here to register your interest.
- You’ll then be invited in for an informal catch up with Gemma, the Farm’s Manager to learn more about what’s involved to make sure it suits you and to discuss your suitability.
- The Farm will require two referee names to send off for two references. Once two satisfactory references are received you’ll be invited in for a ‘taster session’ in the shop to have a go at using the till etc and check you’re happy with this role.
