On Saturday 9th November, more than 300 people walked through the doors of the Tate Exchange for #PowerOfSouthwark to celebrate the diverse community of Southwark!

We brought together various charities to showcase the great initiatives this borough has to offer - and there was a little something for everyone!

Theatre Peckham set the tone for the day by opening with an amazing display of ballet, street dance, tap dance, choir singing, with all the parents watching in support.  Shortly after, we had Carnaval del Pueblo showcasing dances from around South America!

Elephant Hub Community Hub have a weekly street and afro-beat dance class for young people, who also performed at the event. The confidence of these young performers was inspiring!

There was a true spirit of community throughout the day; with plenty of families and children taking part in the interactive stations, and lots of opportunities to spark conversations and build connections with others. Rai the DJ kept us all dancing throughout the day with her live set.

There were many interactive workstations to get involved with that stretched the imagination of our visitors, with questions like "What do you think London will look like by 2050?" and "What does community mean to you" on big writing walls.

Healthwatch Southwark created a space for visitors to use their creativity to express feelings about life and their journey to receiving medical treatment.

The crafts continued with Elephant Hub Crafternoon, The Drawing Room and Coin Street Community Builders getting everyone involved with decoupage, mini magazine making and drawing workshops.

Visitors also got a chance to enjoy a cosy cinematic atmosphere in the Southwark Room where a showreel of local films was being played. At 4pm, Black Heroes Foundation had a special viewing of "The Story of Sam King", the first black mayor of Southwark, followed by a Q&A.

"There was so much going on for me and the kids, from the dancing and the drawing - it's been a good day!"

There was great feedback of the event - thank you to every who came and were involved on the day!
