''I joined Silverfit when it first launched in Burgess Park. I joined in the Nordic Walking session and enjoyed it for about a year where I got to know a number of regular Silverfitters. Gradually I started attending more sessions in the week as I enjoyed it so much!
I now attend both the Silver days in Burgess Park and have since taken up Silver Cheerleading at Silver Tuesday in The Castle Centre. As I had been Nordic Walking for quite some time, I was asked if I wished to become a walk leader! I soon went on a course and became active in helping others which was very rewarding, and enjoyable. It was a joy seeing people regain their confidence few weeks into joining Silverfit!
I wanted to be more involved with Silverfit as I want to give something back to the organisation that has helped me get fit post my cancer recovery. My partner too was involved with Silverfit, but sadly passed away with a brain tumour last year. I recently became the co-ambassador for Silver Tuesday at The Castle Centre with another Silverfitter. The social side of Silverfit is very important as we stay back and have a tea and chat after our sessions. It’s a lot of fun! Overall, volunteering has been a very fulfilling experience, which I am certain a lot of people would truly enjoy if they gave a class or two or go!''
