The health and social care workforce in England: recruitment, retention and the impact of Brexit. The event will be chaired by Eleanor Smith MP. This timely seminar focuses on key issues relating to the health and social care workforce in England, including:
- The impact of Brexit on recruitment, retention rates, morale and leadership - and options for policy going forward as Health Education England plans to publish a draft NHS workforce strategy by December; and
- Priorities for the professions in primary, secondary and social care, and for Allied Health Professionals.
The agenda includes keynote addresses from Giles Denham, Director, Strategic Relationships, Health Education England; Janet Davies, Chief Executive and General Secretary, Royal College of Nursing and Professor Mark Radford, Director of Nursing for Improvement, NHS Improvement.
The seminar takes place in the context of goals outlined in the Next Steps on the NHS Five Year Forward View, the General Practice Forward View and AHPs into Action to improve knowledge sharing and service efficiency, as well as the introduction of ambitious targets for GP recruitment and creating medical training places.
Delegates will consider priorities for primary care, including the implementation of STPs and working in multi-disciplinary teams; and for the secondary care workforce - looking at demand for services, training and the strategy for developing the workforce - with NHS Providers identifying workforce concerns as the single biggest challenge facing trusts.
They will also examine key issues for social care, following the publication of CQC’s State of Care report, which argued for collaborative working and the further integration of services - and the future for public sector pay, following the announcement that the Government will fund pay awards for NHS staff on the Agenda for Change contract providing they are part of a deal with the unions to boost productivity.
Further sessions examine priorities for Health Education England, and for training, skills and development; as well as regulation, safety and patient experience.
This seminar will present an opportunity to engage with key policymakers and other interested parties, and is CPD certified (more details). Places have been reserved by officials from the Crown Commercial Service- Cabinet Office; DH. Also due to attend are representatives from Avenues Group; British Psychological Society; Certitude; Family Doctor Association; JLL; Lantum; Martha Trust; NHS Improvement; Nursing and Midwifery Council and University of Gloucestershire.
